Hamlet

Synopsis

StagePlay Japan and YTG bring you a Hamlet unlike any you’ve seen before. This is a high-energy Hamlet that wears its politics on its sleeve and brings Shakespeare’s most cerebral tragedy to visceral life. You won’t want to miss this!
The year is 1979. A group of anarchist punks have taken over a venue in Nakano in order to put on a production of Hamlet. Their goal is to use the familiarity of Hamlet to make a political statement about power, privilege, and patriarchy and maybe stir the population of Tokyo to rise up in revolution!
High energy, outlandish costumes, and revolutionary fervour combine in this Hamlet to make it the Shakespeare show you don’t want to miss in 1979 or 2026. The show will be performed live in person and streamed live from West End Studio in Tokyo’s artsy Nakano neighbourhood.

Othello is a classic Shakespearean play about a powerful military leader who secretly marries Desdemona, a noblewoman admired for her kindness and strength. But jealousy begins to take root when Iago—Othello’s trusted officer—decides to destroy him. Angry at being passed over for a promotion, Iago weaves a web of lies, manipulating those around him and slowly convincing Othello that Desdemona has betrayed him.
